Jesus Christ and the Gospel

Jesus Christ is Lord over all (including L.A.), the God of the universe, the treasure of our lives, and Chief Pastor of our church. He came from heaven to earth around 5BC and died about AD33 (about 1,976 years ago). He died for sinners as a substitute to save them from the wrath of God that we all deserve and then rose from the dead on third day. He went back up to heaven, and gave his Spirit to people to form gospel communities (churches) that would tell others about him. Currently he sits at the right hand of the God the Father in majestic glory, intercedes for his followers, accompanies them in spirit as they go out into the world to make more followers of Jesus, and prepares for his return when “the kingdom of this world [will] become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ.”

The gospel is God’s message to the world and it is the message about Jesus Christ. The message God wants all of us to hear, believe, and live our lives for is the news that Jesus, the Son of God, came into the world and lived the life we should of lived in perfect and joyful obedience to God the Father. He died the death we should have died and took the penalty for our sin on himself. He rose from the dead on the third day defeating sin, Satan, and death and calls all men and women to turn away from their sin AND their efforts of righteousness and goodness, and instead trust the Lord Jesus’ goodness, righteousness, and death on the cross alone for their salvation.

If you want to know more about who Jesus is, what the Bible is all about, or what the essence of Christianity is, then please contact us at a gathering or email or call and we can set up a time to meet and discuss whatever is on your mind.

Other video links to a clear explanation of the gospel: Mark Dever (also see this video), Mark Driscoll, Russ Moore, John MacArthur, Lig Duncan, and John Piper (What is the Gospel?; The Gospel in 6 Minutes, read this too: What is the Christian Gospel?). We’d also recommend you read this short explanation of the gospel from the brothers at T4G.
